Monte Reed is a versatile designer who recently obtained a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During his time at UPenn, Monte held a Graduate Teaching Assistant position for two years, focusing on design studios and Visual Studies. Currently, he is actively pursuing licensure to become a registered architect. Monte's design process draws inspiration from various fields, including fashion and automobiles, resulting in a multidisciplinary approach.
Monte earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Portland State University, where he spent a significant part of his life in Portland. Throughout his career, he has gained valuable experience working with esteemed design firms such as David Hotson Architect, Linden Brown Architecture, and Time Magazine 100's Esque Studio. His dedication and talent were recognized when he was awarded the KPF externship through Penn in 2021, followed by the prestigious E. Dales Lewis and Van Alen traveling fellowships in 2022.
Monte's work has been showcased and published in renowned platforms and exhibitions, including Dezeen, CITYX - Venice Biennale, Pressing Matters, Weitzman Architecture, Portland State University, and Center of Architecture - Portland, among others. Since 2023, he has also served as a guest reviewer of academic work at the University of Pennsylvania, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Jefferson University; contributing to the development of emerging designers. In 2016, Monte collaborated with Snohetta on an ambitious project, producing their inaugural full-scale U.S. exhibition at the Portland Center for Architecture titled "Snohetta: People, Process, Projects."
As part of his graduate studies, Monte undertook a groundbreaking thesis project titled "Reimagining Monumentality - Creating Resilient and Culturally Significant Architecture through Emerging Technologies." This innovative endeavor developed a unique methodology that integrates 2D diffusion model images into 3D model software using descriptive geometry. By harnessing emerging technologies, Monte explored the potential of architecture to be both resilient and culturally significant.
