Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, Award

The LA Trust of Historic Preservation recognized our excellence, in cooperation with Main Street America, in post-Katrina New Orleans.

The scope of our work for the Oak Street corridor utilized Main Street's four point approach: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization.

Our initial work comprised of establishing a framework of identity predicated by our surveys of existing conditions, collecting oral histories, historical building records and research utilizing Sanborn maps, archived periodicals, the inventory of building materials/methods and establishing Oak Street's significance and importance in New Orleans history.

This framework was then translated into an overall streetscape design guide. Our work continued thereafter with owner-building specific recommendations that would help guide the community preserve, rehabilitate, and restore the area in wake of hurricane Katrina. Additionally we provided reconstruction projects that would welcome additional economic opportunities to the neighborhood.

Oak Street is now a burgeoning uptown neighborhood flowing with activity to the numerous businesses and culture it embodies.
