Columbia University, New York, NY, US, MArch, MS. Advanced Architectural Design

Studio Critics: Mimi Hoang, David Benjamin, Dan Wood

During my graduate study at Columbia University, I have developed critical thinking methods upon architecture, which enable me to look closely at the issues behind architecture and sensitively distinguish them to explore the possible roles that architecture can play under these circumstances. For my studio design project Headquarters Going Up! , I researched on contemporary giant tech cooperates’ need of large continuous office space so as to encourage and facilitate internal communication and cooperation. However, this need can hardly be satisfied in New York because of the limitation of the Manhattan grid and its expensive land price. I therefore developed scenarios interrogating how creative office space can be organized vertically and can shape people’s work relationship with each other.
