At James Merrell Architects, we believe that design is a narrative art. Like great novels, great houses both embrace and defy the norms of their day. It is essential for the kind of art that stays with us, that has longevity.
How do we apply this philosophy in our design? It’s easy to describe and fascinating to do: we offer our clients a seat at the table. Architectural fashions aside, it is the client, and only the client, who brings the stories, the specificity, and the individuality needed to makes each house its best unique self.
Client conversations are not always easy, but they are meaningful and critically important. When a client sees his or her true self in the rooms and spaces of their home, the client knows that the story they are living is their own true story. This is the reason, we believe, that we can proudly say our clients never sell their houses.
