Hello. My name is Josh Westerman and I am a young designer eager to use my passion for smart design and planning through architecture. Under the direction of urban designer Jeff Speck, The Walkable City is a comprehensive course on the most effective arguments, techniques, and tools for reshaping places in support of walking, biking, and transit, including a design charrette with Somerville chief planner George Proakis.
With a focus on learning the Ten Steps of Walkablity, the objectives of the course include learning the most powerful economic, epidemiological, and environmental arguments for making a sustained investment in walking, biking, and transit,
crafting a walkability plan, and actively participating in a brainstorming charrette for the redevelopment of three neighborhoods surrounding new rail stations in the MBTA’s planned Green Line expansion.
