I’m a Mexican architect with extensive experience in large scale projects. For the past few years I’ve been working for one of the most successful firms in Mexico City, Fernando Romero Enterprise (FR-EE), having developed all kind of projects, from offices buildings to large infrastructure projects such as the New Mexico City International Airport. This very last one was developed as the product of the Joint Venture between Fernando Romero and Norman Foster.
My responsibilities varied throughout the project lifecycle going from the BIM Coordination to Project Management, in all cases I was nearly attached to the design team, helping them develop the Project in 3D and acknowledging them about any coordination issues that occurred during the project design and construction documents phases.
I was leading the BIM team that at its largest had 40 architects trained in BIM working together plus a smaller team of engineers in both New York and The Hague to be able to finish the project. We were in charge of producing all 2D Documentation and the BIM Models that were awarded as the best in the world in 2017 by Autodesk, by the end, the model reached almost 70GB and 10,000 drawings were issued, all the architectural information was produced in Mexico City.
Later on the project I was involved in the Room Data Sheet creation, which required a very developed knowledge of the building planning to organize all the information necessary to create the document, plus the ability to manipulate and feed all the information to the BIM Model to be able to use it for creating the report. Little over 5,800 rooms were analyzed creating 1 data sheet per room by the end of this exercise.
Furthermore I was also involved in On-Site coordination dealing with RFI’s, Work Orders, Material Sample Submittals and On- Site meetings for the Passenger Terminal Building Envelope, which was a very complex structure built out of 21 funnels and a spaceframe system.
Working in FR-EE has opened my panorama in terms of what can be done with BIM and Architecture, this lead to the creation of the BIM standards for the office, that we’re currently using for all of our projects in the firm and also pioneering the rules for the use of BIM in Mexico.
My intention applying for a firm based
in another country, is to keep on learning and begin an internationalization of my career as I think is the next step forward to ensure success.
