About

Recognized as ''an emerging and influential architect'', Alper Derinbogaz investigates the possibilities of physical environment through the potential relationships between space and time. His design approach mostly relies on the importance of re-evaluating the context and intensifying it through interventions in multiple scales. Thus, his design varies in scale from the museums to installations, intending to uncover and question the essential elements of the given site and the theme.

Alper Derinbogaz has gained many recognitions, awards and honours internationally including German Design Award in 2018, Good Design Award in 2018, World Architecture Award in 2017, Plan Award for Innovative Architecture in 2015, YAP Program of MOMA shortlist and A+ Architizer Award 2015. And he represented Turkey in the 14th Venice Biennial International Architecture Exhibition in its debut year of the Pavilion of Turkey in 2014.

Three of his built works, Gate, Panorama and Augmented Structures were included in the Best Architecture of the Year Selection, and received the Arkitera Young Architect Award in 2011.

He graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 2005. He received the Fulbright Scholarship for his master degree in Architecture and Urbanism Department at the University of California, Los Angeles by completing his degree with the UCLA Graduate Award. Derinbogaz founded Salon Alper Derinbogaz in 2010, referring to the French term, as a gathering space for emerging ideas or criticism. He still continues to lead his architectural design studio at the Istanbul Technical University as a senior lecturer.

German Design Award Winner, Architecture, 1st Place

"This concept entails an intelligent interplay between a monumental and sculptural design aesthetic, whose solid-cement effect is merely simulated. A magnificent concept, featuring an impressive effect from a distance and amazing lightness close up," stated the German Design Award Jury.

Launched in 2012, The German Design Award is an international prize from the German Design Council aiming to discover, present and honor unique design trends that are in their own way ground-breaking in the international design landscape. It is one of the best-respected design competitions in the world, and is held in high regard well beyond professional circles.

The number of participants in the Excellent Communications Design category exceeded 5,000 this year. Products and projects were submitted from 56 countries, with international submissions expanding to 48% of all entries. The international jury, consisting of representatives of economy, science and design, worked hard to compile a selection of especially outstanding designs. In the competition’s 49 categories, a total of 45 gold prizes were awarded. Parkopera won the German Design Award in the Excellent Communications Design, Architecture category.
