My name’s Lucy, I am an architect with 6+ years experience; I completed my Masters in Architecture at UTS, in Sydney Australia in 2012/2013 and have been working full-time since then.
My professional experience is varied, and for this I consider myself a young architect with well-rounded experience, and well-rounded skills, that can be re-appropriated to both interior and “exterior” architecture, and design in general.
I enjoy working on projects of all scales, as they each provide new learning opportunities, and I enjoy the endless challenges faced with every new project.
I am keen to learn and keen to broaden my knowledge and design sensibilities.
I have predominantly worked at the front end of large commercial projects from concept design through to bid-phase documentation; However my most recent role was Project Architect from CD stage through construction on an “intimate scale” co-working space; my role was predominately project and construction management. I was the main point of contact between the design team and construction team; managing all coordination between design, building services and construction.
At this stage in my career I have found that it is my natural skills in communication and coordination that make me an asset to any team and project, combined with an eye for detail and that I cannot help but strive for perfection.
Strong skills in Revit, Adobe Indesign / Illustrator / Photoshop, Hand Sketching, Design Concept Development, Design Presentations and Project Coordination.
Core belief : A well designed space is a space that draws people within it, around it, creates movement and human connection ; spaces that people truly enjoy / feel pleasure to experience.
Soho House & Co., New York, NY, US, Project Architect
I joined the Soho House internal design team in august last year;
i joined a team specifically working on the new product "Soho Work Spaces", our team has been responsible for the delivery of the first four Soho Works Spaces in North America.
When i first joined the team each of these four projects were entering into the CD stage; and so we all pushed to complete construction documentation for all four.
Since the filing of the CD documents i am now responsible for the continued project management of one of the properties, which is the first and only Soho Works space in Manhattan.
I am one of three Project Architect's and we each report to the Principle Architectural Lead for the company, with a small team of junior architects to assist with design and documentation.
My role as project architect was initially to manage the design intent being captured in CD drawings, and is now the realization of those drawings into the construction phase of the project. I work closely with an external project manager and the construction team to manage each stage through construction.
This current role requires strong skills in communication and people management / people skills, as i deal with designers, external architects, engineers, builders (sub contractors), construction company managers, internal company stakeholders, internal financial team; all people who communicate very differently and care about different things.
I believe i have very strong skills in communication, awareness; i have advanced skills in rivet, and have complete tasks with a high level of attention to detail and diligence.
Woods Bagot, Sydney, AU, Designer
2nd In Charge; on the delivery of the “Metro Box” portion of the Major Works to Sydney Central Station.
Woods Bagot with Laing O’Rourke and Aurecon won the Design Competition to re-design and deliver the upgrade works to Sydney Central Railway Station.
The Metro Box is the only portion of the Major Works that is an entirely New Build and does not interface with the existing building. The Metro Box consists of two levels; the concourse level that connects to the existing concourse, and from this level passengers ascend almost 20 metres to a new platform below.
I am part of a small team working to deliver this design package. I work in Revit on a daily basis; and I am involved in all levels of coordination with the team of engineers and the client group Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro Group.
Scott Carver, Sydney, AU, Graduate Architect
Over 3 years with Scott Carver my role progressed from architectural assistant, to 2nd in charge, to the lead designer and running my own projects (with guidance).
i worked on the revit documentation for a number of apartment building development applications.
My natural skills in communication have guided me into roles that focus on coordination as well as relationship building with clients.
PTW, Sydney, AU, Graduate Architect
I worked in a small team on the revit documentation (for tender) for two 23 story towers designed by foster and partners.
I became a key point of contact within the team for all coordination with external consultants.
After this project i also worked on a number of design competitions, for mixed-use/multi residential developments.
I also worked closely with the business development team , submitting Request for Tender, Expression of Interest documents for winning new work.
I have developed an ability to perform tasks within a controlled time period based on the project fee, scope, and having an awareness of the cost of my time.
Dickson Rothschilde, Sydney, AU, Graduate Architect
Within this role I worked with a team on the lodgement of development applications for residential flat buildings, predominantly within Sydney’s western suburbs. I was involved on projects from their preliminary stages, and at each stage of their design development through to development application. I completed yield assessment tasks for clients, site analysis studies, cross ventilation, solar access and conceptual master planning strategy diagrams. Using AutoCAD, I completed mark ups to plan, elevation and section architectural drawings. I used Adobe Photoshop for colour elevation architecturals, as well as Adobe Illustrator and Indesign for other graphic/diagram presentation tasks.
I gained a thorough understanding of council controls, in particular of the Residential Flat Design Controls; I completed two SEPP 65 reports for two separate development applications. I was also involved in the writing of SEE reports.
Between January and March this year the Practice Director of this firm had been engaged by solicitors to provide an Affidavit of his Expert Opinion on a court case relating to the architectural services of a third-party architect; I worked on this court case as a research assistant, tracing evidence of malpractice.
