About

Kiran is a founding partner at MAP LLC, a design practice based in Washington DC, with project offices in China, India and Nepal.

With a Masters in urban studies from MIT, a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from SPA (India), and experience spanning almost two decades in leading firms of the US, Kiran brings a distinct cross-disciplinary expertise in the fields of planning, architecture, and product design. His award-winning projects span the globe, including major cities in the US, Germany, Singapore, China, India, South Korea, and Nepal.

The common thread that ties his strikingly wide range of work is his ecologically-sensitive approach, and the rigor with which he designs projects to smallest details. Much of his work has evolved through a careful understanding of climate and culture, and balanced together with R&D, to inform materials and technology that are both environment and cost sensitive.

Before establishing MAP, Kiran served as Design Director/Associate Principal at Ehrenkrantz, Eckstut and Kuhn Architects in Washington DC (now part of Perkins Eastman Company), spearheading the firm’s key projects in the US and overseas. Prior to that, he was Assistant Director for the Urban Planning and Design Group at Michael Baker Jr. Inc., and led several key citywide initiatives in Washington DC.

In addition to his professional practice, Kiran continues to be involved in academia. He served as lecturer, visiting faculty, and teaching assistant for numerous graduate and undergraduate courses in architecture and urban design at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge MA), Catholic University (Washington DC), and Nepal Engineering College (Kathmandu).
