Marta Casarin is an interdisciplinary designer with an extensive and accomplished body of work in architectural lighting and urban installations. Trained as a classical guitarist, Marta became more and more passionate about lighting as she saw it be the music of architecture, and her enthusiasm grew from its potential to change the perception of a space, without physically modifying its structure. Her project experience ranges from hospitality and retail lighting, to commercial, residential, institutional and landscape.

Marta received her Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from Parsons the New School for Design with Honors, and was awarded the Thesis Prize in the Lighting design Application Section. Before specializing in lighting, Marta earned a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from IUAV University of Venice, and a Master’s degree in music from the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello of Venice. During her lighting studies, she was awarded several prizes and recognitions, including the Parsons Presidential Scholarship, the IESNYC Merit Scholarship, and the Grand Prize Award at the IESNYC Student Lighting Competition.

Marta joined JOURNEY Lighting as Senior Designer after gaining experience as Lighting designer and Project Manager at Dot Dash, and HLB Lighting Design. Her most recent project highlights include the Penn Station renovation in New York City and Post HTX in Houston, which was awarded the prestigious Lumen Award of Merit. In addition to her daily practice, in 2020 Marta joined the Flint Collective, a non-profit, passion-driven organization of artists, designers and architects who create art installations in the public space to engage the local community. On of their installations, “Open”, was shortlisted at the Dezeen Awards 2021 in the architectural lighting design category, and it was awarded a Lumen Award for lighting as a tool for social impact.
