Since joining Pfeiffer Partners (as HHPA) in 1994, Stephanie Kingsnorth has led the firm’s work in preservation and restoration. A Principal of the firm, her responsibilities have focused primarily on historic structures—for academic and civic facilities—through all phases of design, including Historic Structures Reports, space planning and programming, concept drawings, design documentation and construction administration. In 2009, Ms. Kingsnorth was named as a top “40 Under 40” rising star in the AEC community by Building Design + Construction Magazine.

Following the formation of Pfeiffer in 2004, Stephanie was named a Principal of the nationally recognized firm that specializes in cultural and campus planning, restoration and reuse, libraries and theaters. With over 16 years of experience in the renewal of historic buildings, Ms. Kingsnorth has extensive knowledge of The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, Federal Historic Preservation Laws, the California Historic Building Code and the Uniform Code for Building Conservation. Stephanie leads the firm in historic preservation projects like the LEED Gold Certified Science Museum of Virginia and the Atascadero City Hall Historic Rehabilitation. Stephanie is adept at working with diverse constituencies and multiple stakeholder groups involved with student life projects. She has been instrumental in the planning and design of the sustainable Seattle University Lemieux Library (LEED Gold) and the net-zero Colorado College Tutt Library, as well as the Harvey Mudd and Claremont McKenna College Residence Halls.
Stephanie is Vice President of Advocacy and on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Conservancy; a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, California Preservation Foundation, and Pasadena Heritage; the former Vice President of the Western Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology; and a featured speaker for the Association of College Unions International.

Stephanie joined Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates (HHPA) in 1994 and was named an Associate Architect following the completion of her Master in Architecture and Certificate of Historic Preservation from the University of Washington. During this time, Stephanie contributed her expertise in historic preservation to key projects for the firm such as the Griffith Observatory Renovation/Expansion and the Stanford University Renovation of Historic Quad buildings. As an Associate, Stephanie's preservation project experience includes: San Diego Civic Theatre Feasibility Study for Renovation, Atascadero City Hall and Printery Rehabilitation, Beverly Hills Cultural Center of Beverly Hills, California Institute of Technology South Houses Renovation, King Street Station Historic Renovation, and Vassar College Libraries Historic Renovation and Expansion. Stephanie also has extensive experience designing Library and Student Life Facilities. She lectures frequently on preservation and academic design, including at the California Preservation Design Solutions Workshop at Stanford University in 2002 and the Seattle American Institute of Architects during National Preservation Week in 1999.
