About

Johnathon Smith is a 2017 Master’s of Architecture Graduate from the University of Florida.

While at the University of Florida, Johnathon was the recipient of the 2016 Stovall Scholarship allowing him to travel to Vicenza, Italy to participate in a semester of graduate studies. As he had previously attended an undergraduate semester abroad in Vicenza, travel has influenced much of his work. Following his international experiences, he produced a 2017 Graduate Thesis book focusing on “The Strategies for Resisting Stylistic Obsolescence”, which analyzed components of design longevity through cars, fashion and technology. Producing many drawings for the thesis, his Analytical Mapping of Venice won The 2017 Beck Award for Best Digital/Hybrid Media in the KROB Memorial Delineation Competition, in October 2017, post graduation. His drawing, “Form Finding in the Formless” was also featured as a Finalist in the Professional Hand Category of the Competition. Before attending the University of Florida for Graduate Studies, Johnathon received his Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Central Florida.

After graduating, Johnathon worked at Olson Kundig in Seattle, Washington. He intends to continue producing drawings and to maintain curious questions about fictitious futures.
