I am a recent graduate of The University of Colorado in Boulder. There I studied Environmental Design, which to most people when they hear this they might think of “green” or “invisible design.” However its not quite that the case, while there was some emphasis on how to construct sustainable buildings the core of the program focused on an eclectic design process. This opened me up to a world beyond just thinking about building design. As simple as it sounds it made me think about the full environment thats being designed, how the building looks, the landscaping that surrounds it or weaves through it, and the buildings place on a larger scale. In Denmark this was simply summed up for me when I learned about Arne Jacobsen’s “floor plan to the forks” building style. All of these combined experiences drive me to design more than just the building, but continue to work on several different areas of a project where the sum equals the environment.
