About

My favorite saying is being an architect is like being a dentist living in a mouth. I have felt like this since I was a child, always analyzing and yearning to re-design the environment around me.  Being from a very rural area in the Appalachian Mountains I only knew one architect in our county.  Thus, I took inspiration from boat designs, old barns, and the modest pine cottages across the countryside of NC. I knew that one day I wanted to draw these edifices for my life’s work.

I received a scholarship to Berea College and studied Industrial Arts and Design. As a liberal arts school it was a smorgasbord of class offings that introduced you to the design process, I hardly got my feet wet. My mid twenties was a beautiful and explorative period spent farming, working carpentry and landscaping, and traveling. At the age of 27 I decided it was time to get my Masters of Architecture and to begin a career that would fulfill me for the decades to come.

People describe me as highly creative and hard working. Sustainability and a sense of meaning seem to come out through my work. I enjoy collaborating with others and cultivating a positive work culture. I am well experienced in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite, I can also work in auto CAD and Sketch up, and I often transfer drawing between multiple platforms. I am interested in how coding will effect architecture of the future and I am learning Dynamo and Grasshopper. My sketching style is quick, expressive, and effective.

Thanks you for learning more about me and I hope to hear from your firm soon,

~Matus
