Hi!
I am Hector Rodriguez and I am a designer. I am an explorative and resourceful individual who believes in making opportunities to learn by doing. Over the past 6 years I have built up an extensive background in architectural design and construction, small scale fabrication, visual communications, and design leadership. I recently completed my Master of Architecture degree with a Housing Specialization from the University of Oregon and moved down to Los Angeles to begin practicing as a designer.
While at the University of Oregon and Arizona State University I continually explored housing design as well as furniture design, graphic design, and design fabrication. I have led crowd funded projects like the Home4 MicroDwelling project, I have worked alongside Michael Fifield FAIA AICP to develop new forms of medium density housing for a housing exhibition, and recently helped manage the installation of Go Ave 26 for LA-Más. Apart from these experiences I also hold extensive knowledge of fabrication tools and techniques including stock milling, fine woodworking, and welding.
I am seeking to join a team that values an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving and the power of a good question.
LA-Más, Los Angeles, CA, US, Install Manager Fellow
Managed the installation of Go Ave 26, a pedestrian improvement project supporting local Metro and bus line users. We installed pedestrian oriented design interventions including wayfinding signage, murals, and fence/ sidewalk patterns that helped visually demarcate the pedestrian zone.
Along with on-site installation management, duties included developing a detailed implementation schedule, installation technique development, labor hiring and management, and communication with project designers and the LA-Más team.
Michael Fifield FAIA AICP (University of Oregon), Eugene, OR, US, Design and Research Housing Assistant
Examined, documented, and analyzed specific built low-rise medium-density housing projects. Then worked in a team to develop design principles and prototypical residential designs (at the neighborhood, block, and unit level) for new forms of low-rise, medium-density housing.
