About

To Whom It May Concern,

I am completing my second year of Interior Architecture (Adaptive Reuse) graduate program at Rhode Island School of Design. During the study of my previous 3 semesters and a summer program, I have done adaptive reuse projects focusing on different user needs and multiple space scales, a community library, a mental disease cure center, a hybrid building within dwelling and a 2020 luxury private jet. I chose studio projects with variety of subjects in order to challenge myself and prepare for the possible work field.

I believe I am well qualified to the entry level position architecture and interior design with digital design skill such as Rhinoceros(7 years), Revit(1 year), Sketch-up(3 years), Auto CAD(6 years), 3D Max(6 years), Photoshop(6 years), Illustrator(3 years), Indesign(2 years). One of my assistantship at school is to lead 3D fabrication training programs about laser cutting, 3d printing and CNC for lab monitors and students.

Besides, I also have hands-on experience in industrial design and landscape design in my 3 months internships in Wuhan, China, 2013 in which I play the role as the co-designer of a desktop 3D printer and the architectural assistant of the Sanya Landscape Belt project. As a young architect, my undergraduate degree of furniture design gives me unique advantages of understanding the role of furniture in all variety of space.

Personally, despite of polishing my professional skills, I also pay much attention to improve my ability to communicate with others whenever there’s teamwork during projects. I am eager to give all my enthusiasm to substantial career life and I believe that a challenging job will always push me further. Looking forward to hear from you and wish for the potential cooperation in the future!

All the best,

Lingfei Liu

Education

RISD INTAR Department of Interior Architecture, Providence, RI, US, Masters, Interior Architecture(Adaptive Reuse)

A field at the intersection of architecture, conservation and design of the built environment, Interior Architecture takes an innovative approach to the reuse and transformation of existing buildings. Every built structure eventually faces three possibilities: demolition, preservation or adaptive reuse. RISD’s Interior Architecture Department has focused on the latter since 1947, with the leadership of Ernst Lichtblau. An architect, designer and student of Otto Wagner, he changed the name and professional orientation of the department from Interior Design to Interior Architecture, which shifted the focus from the application of surface materials to understanding the design of “a building from the interior to the exterior.”

Today, advanced design studios are central to both the BFA, MA and MDes programs. The core curricula include the study of history, theory, drawing, structures, materials, lighting and technology, all of which ensures that students fully understand the concerns of professionals in the building industry and allied fields.
