About

I am a creative, passionate and extremely enthusiastic person who finds meaning and joy through the practice of Architecture and the development of good Design. I believe in the importance of Architecture and in the impact it has in everyday life, and in a way that’s what led me to become an Architect.

I have demonstrable experience in Portugal and in the UK, and am registered in the ARB.
Having studied Architecture in Portugal made me take a big deal of interest in craftsmanship: I like to draw and to build with my own hands, but this doesn’t mean I don’t see the value of using a computer, as Grace Hopper said, it “was the first machine man built that assisted the power of his brain instead of the strength of his arm.”

Education

Harvard University Edx, The Architectural Imagination

ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute, Lisbon, PT, Masters, Architecture and Urbanism

While in university I developed an array of projects that ranged from abstract exploratory projects to realistic developments, and even to the study of urban form and its relation with architecture.
On the final year one had to submit a project proposal accompanied by a dissertation of a year’s worth of work. I chose to use my work to open a discussion about the city’s image and heterogeneity - which I predicted would be useful in my career - by submitting a whole body of work entitled “In The Impossible City - the eulogy of the ordinary”. The final classification was 18 out of 20.

hogeschool 'Sint Lucas' Brussel, Brussels, BE, Architecture and Urbanism

Awards

Navarro Paiva juvenile detention centre | competition, 1st Place

My professional route started when still in University with a competition for a Juvenile Prisional Centre in Navarro Paiva (2012). I participated in this project with a few colleagues, counting on the support of a former Professor of ours for technical and organisational matters. After meeting the director of the prisional centre, we came to conclude that a project requiring a lot of resources would not be feasible. Alongside that, the fact that the main building was in good condition and was merely insufficient for the children to be schooled in, led us to think of ways to complement the existing complex and to harmonise its exterior space. Our solution involved a three-stage processthat would allow construction to proceed when funds were available. Although we won 1st place on the competition, the project was never built due to lack of funds.
