Employment

Smith Sinnett Architecture, Raleigh, NC, US, Junior Architect

For 8 months (working towards nearly 1400 NCARB approved experience hours), I assisted full time on a county courthouse project, and helped bring the project from Design Development to the Bid Phase, on time and under budget. This included plan revisions, elevation studies, red lining drawings, consultant communication, site visits, and using Revit to create design and construction drawings.

Also provided assistance on a variety of projects including public K - 12 schools, colleges, architectural planning studies, presentation materials, and marketing. Primarily used Revit to assemble construction documents and work through the design process for public buildings.

Education

North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, US, BArch, Architecture

Academically, by May 2017 I will have graduated with honors from NCSU with a Bachelors of Architecture, and a Bachelors of Environmental Design in Architecture. This university prepared me well for architectural practice because of the focus on presentation, material qualities, tectonics, and construction processes, as well as a rigorous design curriculum. Our projects were presented in front of professionals, professors, and our peers allowing me to develop skills that could be used to communicate with clients, consultants, or contractors effectively. There is a heavy emphasis on computer rendering and physical modeling at NCSU, and this will be apparent in my attached work samples. Of note is the “chunk” model of my Boat Craft Center, that was at a large scale, and featured representations of the actual wall section. I have worked at all scales of projects from bus shelters to skyscrapers, and have found that I enjoy working on larger scale projects that bring communities together. The project types I am most interested in are Multi-use projects, or cultural gathering places.
