I am a designer working at the seam of architecture, engineering, and computation. I strive to create remarkable spaces through application of material systems, structural typology. I am interested in the role computational methods can play in improving collaboration between designers and builders through investigation into the tension between high tech and low tech approaches to design. I'm as likely to be casting fabric shells as to be scripting ribbing based on isostatic stress contours. I explore these issues both through professional work at EndreStudio and through teaching in the M.Arch program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Swenson Say Faget, Seattle, WA, US, Project Engineer
I performed structural design for a variety of projects in both new construction and retrofits of existing structures. While the focus was primarily custom residential, I worked on commercial, mixed use, and multi family residential as well. I worked closely with architects, owners, and contractors throughout the design, permit and construction phases.
Endrestudio, Emeryville, CA, US, Architectural + Structural Designer
My varied roles at endrestudio include architectural design, structural design, construction administration, digital tool design, and project management. Because of our nimble size I have the opportunity of working at a variety of scales and on a variety of project types; anything and everything from bridges to stair cases. My day to day roles include parametric scripting, digital modelling, detailing, structural modelling, structural calculations, fielding RFI's, reviewing submittals, and conducting site observations.
Academy Of Art University, San Francisco, CA, US, Lecturer
My interests in academia mirror my professional interests of improving the seam between architecture and engineering through thoughtful application of digital tools and processes. I challenge my students to leverage technical problem solving to enhance and develop design concepts rather than as simple facilitation. I lecture in Digital Morphology, Tectonics, and Integrated Studio, and serve as a technical adviser for a variety of intermediate and advanced design studios
BIOMS, Berkeley, CA, US, Researcher
BIOMs is an interdisciplinary research group engaging with the pressing issues of water and energy scarcity as they relate to the built environment. My role included materials and systems research, prototyping, experimentation design and execution, technical paper writing, and design competitions. The projects we developed included greywater recycling and energy capture within a building facade, variably permeable membranes for disaster relief, and agricultural waste recovery into composite moldable, millable materials.
UC Berkeley CED, Berkeley, CA, US, Graduate Student Instructor
Arch 150 :: Intro to Structures. I instructed a lab section of the course, helping students to develop an understanding of structural design and its application to design through analytical tools, physical experimentation, and integrated design projects.
Arch 160 :: Intro to Construction. Instructed a lab section of the course which included setting up and supervising construction site visits, conceptual review and application, and design projects in concrete, wood, and metal.
Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., Seattle, WA, US, Associate Engineer
I managed a forensic structural inspection team and coordinated with other teams on regional and national projects. The work required a high degree of interaction and coordination between contractors, owners, tenants, and other teams. In addition, I took an active role in developing systems and protocols for streamlining work among a large number of involved employees. I was one of the principal team leaders tasked with training and developing new and temporary team members.

Fuller Challenge, Honorable Mention
The Buckminster Fuller Institute holds this annual competition to seek out the most innovative and readily-deployable new technologies, strategies, or design methods within the fields of architecture and engineering. Our proposal engaged variable porosity facades for passively controlled light, moisture, and heat transmission.
Semi-Finalist among 200+ entries with BIOMS Group.
CED Departmental Merit Fellowship, Scholarship
Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, Award
Nominated by my students for recognition across the entire university campus.
Berkeley Circus Honoree, Award
The Berkeley Circus is a display of the best student work from the previous year. Within each category one project is singled out among these exemplars as an honoree.
Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award (SISCA), 3rd Place
Joint competition from HAAS school of business (UC Berkeley) and Dow Chemicals. The competition was to develop a humanitarian or ecologically beneficial technology and a business plan for deployment within the developing world. Finalist with interdisciplinary team including Vivek Rao and Henry Kagey.
Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development, 2nd Place
Odebrecht USA sponsors this competition for student-led proposals postulating innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of the built environment.
Finalist of 50+ teams with interdisciplinary team including Vivek Rao and Henry Kagey
T.Y. Lin Prize in Architecture and Engineering, 1st Place
The family of legendary engineer TY Lin continues this award for research proposals investigating the seam between architecture and engineering. Awarded for a research proposal investigating integrated optimization techniques for rapidly deployable disaster relief structures.
