Having trained as an architect and an urban planner/ designer, I am now graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a tentative QPA of 3.54 as a Sustainable Designer this August. I gained knowledge in the field of sustainability by the courses I took while at CMU. These courses were also supported by the application of numerous software mentioned in my resume. Of the courses taken, there are 4 which have left a lasting impact on me. The course on building performance modelling was particularly helpful to understand how human behavior and building attributes like windows affect how a building utilizes energy. Multiple simulations were run to understand this interaction between occupant behavior, building assets and their subsequent impact on energy.
The Productivity, Health and Quality of Buildings course explained how to calculate payback time and cost benefit ratio for various building attributes in an effort to reduce energy consumption. A direct application was seen in the LEED building design course, which helped to identify the prevalent practices in the market, to achieve energy efficiency. The year-long course work was brought to fruition with the zero energy housing class that made me conversant with the latest energy codes, and other rules and regulations to follow along with energy efficiency measures to achieve net zero housing.
I am confident that my unique background would hold me in good stead any job opportunity related to the field of architecture, planning and sustainable design. Please feel free to email me at ‘forprachisharma@gmail.com’ to arrange for an interview for a job
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, US, Teaching Assistant
I am currently acting as a teaching assistant for the UDream summer program this year. I Assist faculty in administrative tasks, acting as liaison between faculty and UDream cohorts.
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, US, Graduate Research Assistant
The objective of this DOE project was to incorporate the use of energy (utility) data analytics with building attributes, to help utility rebate managers target DSM and energy efficiency programs. I assisted Prof. Erica Cochran at CMU in this project, in analysis of energy consumption in buildings, to understand and develop correlations between building attributes, human behavior (management operations) and their impact of energy usage.
