To Whom It May Concern:

I am a graduate of Pratt Institute with a BFA in interior design with interest in a junior position as a design professional with your firm. Prior to transferring to Pratt Institute, I studied at New York School of Interior Design for a year. Both institutions have taught me the appreciation for aesthetics. In one hand, NYSID opened my mind to the possibilities of interior decoration. And in the other, Pratt Institute has helped me developed true talents for interior architecture while applying other artistic qualities such as painting, ceramics, and textiles, which I studied in my home country of South Korea. With my broad range of artistic abilities and knowledge, I am confident about being able to bring to the table a valuable source of innovated ideas. I have worked on several projects on a professional level since my sophomore year. Through these projects, I have gained valuable experience in architectural drawings, digital renderings, presentation boards as well as furnishing selection and time spent at the Decoration and Design building to review the latest trends and new arrivals.

Although most of my education lies within the realm of interior design, I have been exposed to
architecture through the curriculum at Pratt Institute. I am very much interested in construction details and can understand the importance behind such details. If given the opportunity to work in your firm, I will be able to skillfully convey ideas while working alongside architects in order to see designs come into fruition; generating ideas and solutions through collaboration. In addition, my work experience from late 2013 to mid 2014 has given me exceptional exposure to site visits, surveys, residential and commercial concept layouts, as well as, developing and assembling Department of Buildings drawings for our projects.

I firmly believe the most important aspect in design is listening. Through this, critical perspectives and insights are formulated in ways beneficial to the success of a team player that contributes effectively, a team player that enjoys sharing with others. Such experience was that in my junior year at Pratt Institute where I was given the leadership role on a SPA project – collaborating with members in order to assemble the spa, restaurant and lobby components as one hotel brand. In addition, I was awarded first place for a competition of the redesign of the Student Union at Pratt Institute. In this experience, I enjoyed working with team members and realized the importance of time management and peer encouragement. I also facilitated with hand sketches and with software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Revit and 3ds Max.

I have recently made my permanent residence in the United States and wish to resume my professional career in the capital of the world. In that regard, I would like to have the opportunity to meet your firm and discuss ways I could contribute as a designer and possibly become a team member on many of your great projects. Please find enclosed my resume and portfolio. Also please feel free to contact me for additional information. Thank you for your review and consideration. I look forward to hearing from your firm soon.
