About

A serial social and business entrepreneur, I've been a community media activist, an advertising creative director, a student and professor of urban planning and innovation (in the US and Scandinavia), an high-tech incubator co-founder, an innovation-management consultant, co-founded and CEO's three VR and visualization startups, and for a decade was the California Legislature's top policy expert on high tech (telecom and information technologies), regional development (mainly, California's Silicon Valley and Silicon Beach). Currently working on regional, urban, and civic innovation and development in Southern Arizona. Post-grad work at USC Annenberg School, UCLA's Department of Theater Arts (Video Production), and UCLA's School of Architecture & Urban Planning (from which I earned my Ph.D.)  As a Fulbright Scholar, I studied the effects of then-new cellular technology on cross-border communities in the Nordic Arctic Circle.  I've authored and edited three books, Municipal Control of Cable Communications (Praeger 1977), An "Open" Approach to Information Policymaking (Ablex 1989), and the anthology Information Design (ed., MIT Press, 2000).  I'm now working on a book on holistic experience design. Though I live in the desert, my favorite sport remains bodysurfing.  I adore the California coast.  I'm a Taoist.
