An architect and computational design specialist, Mostafa is currently a visiting assistant professor of architecture at Tuskegee University, US. Mostafa holds a Ph.D. in Planning, Design, and Built Environment from Clemson University, he also holds a Masters in Building Technology from the University of Science, Malaysia (2009), and a B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Technology, Iraq (2006). He is a LEED Green Associate with a specialized certification of digital ecology.
Recently Mostafa participated at the Rifat Chadirji prize and was awarded an honorable mention for his project to reconstruct Mosul city fabric. In addition, he participated in a design team in an international competition organized by the Ministry of Housing to design economic housing in Iraq and achieved the fourth place. He was also awarded first prize by the governorate of Baghdad in a design competition to reimagine the Baghdad Entrance Gates. Before his current position at Tuskegee, Mostafa served as the supervisor of the Projects Division at Aliraqia University, 2011.
Mostafa’s main research interest lies in the intersection of computational design, digital fabrication, embedded computations, and reconfigurable structures. His research published at the IJAC, CAADRIA, CAADfutures, ASCAAD, SIGRADI, HCI, DCA and ARCC conferences. Mostafa's doctoral research focuses on the computational nature of Islamic geometric patterns. His doctoral research won the first place research award at the Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium at Clemson University, 2016.
