About

Gary Strang is the founder of GLS Landscape/Architecture and has been designing urban landscapes for over twenty years in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Educated and licensed in Landscape Architecture as well as Architecture, he is one of the first of the new generation of landscape architects to focus on urban landscape commissions in the era of urban revitalization and densification, following the postwar period which was dominated by commissions for suburban parks, subdivisions and corporate campuses.  He is one of the first academics to fully embrace the engineered landscape as a source of inspiration and a fact of urban life, which led to the professional world idea that development should be driven by the design of “green infrastructure.”  The unifying theme underlying his work is the realization that the craft and art of making contemporary landscapes requires blending ecology with utility infrastructure and architecture.
