Jason Oliver is a California licensed Architect and community college educator with over 20 years of professional experience as well as being a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design + Construction. He began his education studying architectural drafting at Los Angeles Pierce College in the early 1990’s and then transferred to the University of Colorado where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design (B.Envd) and a Master’s degree in Architecture (M.Arch). Jason interned for a design firm in Denver while in college which allowed him to acquire marketable technical and professional skills that laid the foundation for his career.
After completing graduate school in 1999, Jason began teaching Architecture classes at Ventura and Santa Monica Community Colleges while working as a designer for Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK). Being involved in the conceptual design and construction document preparation of large-scale health care, justice, and transportation facilities throughout Southern California brought Jason an in-depth understanding of the principles of problem solving and the sustainable design capabilities of Building Information Modeling (BIM). He then served in a design and project management role for Behr Browers Architects in Westlake Village guiding a wide variety of commercial and institutional projects from conceptual design through construction.
As a full-time tenured Architecture professor and department chair, Jason’s current focus is on infusing sustainable design principles into every phase of the building design and construction process, whether it is an active project or a theoretical one being explored by students. He has a demonstrated commitment to stay in front of emerging trends so that students are introduced to the most up to date professional practices before they begin their careers as technicians in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry (AEC).
