As a current senior at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, I am a very dedicated and passionate student of architecture. As I plan to graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture, and minors in both Construction Management and Sustainability Studies I plan to be a diverse and integral part in my future profession.
My professional goal is to create innovative and resilient designs with focus on low environmental impact. This type of design will lead to both functionality and improvement in the design field, which I hope to be an essential part of.

I assist with contract + bidding of projects on various University of Minnesota campuses. Common day-to-day duties include ensuring correct flow of pre-construction documents, project file creation, and correspondence with project vendors. There is often exposure to project management, construction processes, and best value procurement in an office or on-site environment. I also help maintain the UMN CPPM website (http://www.cppm.umn.edu/projects.html) to keep information on current + completed University projects updated and available to the public.

Fall 2014 will be the start of my senior year in which I am well on my way to completing the BS Architecture program along with minors in both Construction Management and Sustainability Studies.

The curriculum surrounds the completion of 4, six-credit intensive design studios with specific themes of material/construction methods, site, program, and urban design. Along with this I have taken varying design technology courses, environmental technology, structures, varying architectural history electives, and materials/construction methodology courses. My studies of Architecture here at UMN-TC have been very well-rounded and fulfilling, which I believe will help me succeed in my future as a graduate student as well as a future participant in the professional world of architecture.

Construction Management has beneficially supplemented my architectural design studies by infusing an understanding of the technical and management sides of construction, bridging a gap between design and construction. This knowledge helps me be a better designer through both a wider knowledge base and an understanding of a trade so closely tied to the practice of architecture. With courses in construction building codes, jobsite safety, plan reviewing, construction estimating and contract documentation I've branched out beyond the theoretical design taught in Architecture school and seen the physical creation of design and the challenges it faces/creates in construction.

Sustainability is very important to me. With the built world being one of the largest global impacts on the environment I believe that through studies of architecture specific sustainability and innovative technologies the environmental impacts of the built world can greatly be reduced, all while having a more beneficial influence on the communities it touches. I have studied sustainability in terms of psychology, construction material use, socio-cultural context, and sustainability's impact on natural resources.
