My name is Noelle Charles. I am a recent graduate of Temple University with my Bachelor of Architecture. During my final year at Temple I completed my thesis that looked at reusing a closed urban landfill. I am very interested in researching both conventional and unconventional sustainability methods within the field of design. Received the special jury prize for Sustainability.
The brief for the competition asked for proposals that re-designed I-95 as it passed through South Philadelphia. I, along with two of my classmates, re-designed it was a generator of energy for the city and for the vacant lots in the area to close the circuit. We proposed collecting CO2, kinetic energy, wind energy, and piezo electric energy. We then designed three piers that were results for the output of these energies. We also proposed that 50% of the energy collected from the highway would be given to the those who developed on the vacant lots.
