Growing up in Appalachia inspired me to want to become an architect. Seeing beautiful landscapes destroyed by developers who bulldoze them into the valleys makes me believe we are being dishonest to what we have. I know there is a great potential to maximize the essence of our surroundings through the experience of what we build. I am searching for employment that will allow me to be sensitive and critical to our surroundings and enhance the human experience.
I wish to be part of creating beautiful, bold, and lasting architecture that enhances human existence through light, simple materials, and attention to detail. I wish to work within the limitations set by the project, client, and site to make an enjoyable space for people to experience. I have a year of working experience at an architecture and planning office in West Virginia where I helped develop design ideas alongside the principal architect. I also layed out graphic presentations for award winning projects.
I was fortunate enough to be able to take a furniture design class at Miami University which helped me gain valuable knowledge about materials and the process of creating something from concept to the finished product. By using steel in the project, I got experience communicating with a steel fabricator. I am capable of designing at many different scales from an object that can be held in a person’s hand to master planning city blocks.
I love design and the art of craftsmanship. I want to learn how to make great architecture happen, not just theory. While working, I would like to be in a flexible position so that I may work on IDP and toward becoming registered.
