The project concerns the restoration of an old barn and conversion into residential building. 
Located in the Monferrato in a hilly area surrounded by woods and vineyards.

The first goal for this project is to preserve and maintain the original features, materials and atmosphere of the rural environment, satisfying the needs of contemporary living. 

Only two materials have been used: the original old bricks and the wood of surrounding woods. With the necessary structural reinforcement the old brick walls have been restored and a new roof built. The old openings to the north were closed for reasons of energy and lined with wooden slats, as the new entrance doors and other details of the building.

The second goal is to create a strong relationship between the interior space and the natural environment, creating a new continuity between the ground and the surrounding fields. 

The continuity between inside and outside is obtained by the "cuts" glazed and a terrace covered by a wooden structure that wraps around the entire building. 

The covered terrace has a double value: an environmental one that reduces solar radiation, and an architectural one in allowing extension of the interior living space towards the exterior landscape (and vice versa) permitting different uses as seasons change.
