I am a recent graduate with honors from the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. An Eagle Scout and former architecture student one of the country's foremost design schools, I have gained an immense amount of organization, time management, and focus over the last two years.
I am drawn to architecture not only because I like to work with my hands - designing and building - but because I have always had a fascination with spatial forms and how humans interact with buildings, from the scale of furniture to the scale of a city. I am especially interested in how buildings can be used for humanitarian purposes, from housing the homeless to providing low-cost housing and infrastructure to the impoverished. Humanity is at a juncture where more than ever, the disparity between the poor and the rich - throughout the world - makes it alarmingly clear that simply spreading awareness about poverty is not enough; action needs to be taken. Hopefully I can employ my skills for this purpose, whether domestically or overseas.
I would also like to put emphasis on my interest in green architecture and alternative forms of energy, and their necessary importance in the future of social/architectural planning. I have had experience exploring the intersection of landscape and edifice, and how that relates to sustainable building - whether passive or active initiatives.
