Welcome to Hive-Inn™ , the hotel that allows rooms to travel…

Our Project is our submission answer to the Radical Innovation Awards 2014 Competition, therefore an answer to the hospitality industry, on an operator point of view. 
Beyond this particular competition, we developed this structure to explore the use and assemblage of containers in a meaningful and new way.

The design lies in the idea of maximum flexibility and mobility, a trend that is embodied in our modern way of life. Containers came as a natural answer to this vision, the challenge was to keep it technically feasible, mobile, and fun.
We also thought of a way to join some of them together after being put in the Hive-Inn matrix, to provide more indoor space (hotel suite, service apartments  office...) by having removable panels on the sides.

To make it financially attractive for the operator, we find that creating a link between major brands, container fit-out, and hive-inn operators could be a winning scenario in which greater experience for the customer could meet with more exposure for the brands, at a lesser cost for the operator, which is  translate in our diagrams.

Containers are designed to be stackable on one another, like Lego, to facilitate transportation and insure stability. Usually, container buildings take advantage of this to easily and quickly put up a building... But that immobilises the container as its final resting place.

We wanted to keep the true nature of containers alive: Containers are mobile, containers travel! 
It created this interesting paradox in which hotel rooms can come to you, expanding the market to residents. 
They can also travel with you, or you can travel to them. This equation leads to many possibilities and creative opportunities.

Additionally the renovation / creation of new rooms is done off-site, which doesn't trouble the building operation itself. Therefore, a Hive-Inn building can change overnight, adapt and creates surprise. 

If one refers to hospitality as a seasonable industry, then the Hive-Inns would be the trees that evolve with seasons...
