Located on the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai’s West Bund—a site with five abandoned aviation fuel tanks and ancillary facilities that once served the historic Longhua Airport—Tank Shanghai gives shape to a new type of contemporary art center that seamlessly combines art, nature and urban life. The project transforms containers of fuel into containers of culture while paying tribute to the site’s industrial past.
