Austin, TX
The Office For Local Architecture (OLA) provided the sustainability consulting for a 191,250 s.f. development in Austin, TX. As part of the newly opened Domain Northside project, the Archer Hotel was designed to serve as a durable, safe, healthy and resource-efficient building that will be comfortable for employees and customers, cost-efficient to operate and educational to the public.
Owners, Lodgeworks Partners, LK Architects, Austin Energy Green Building, and OLA consultants collaborated in early stages of the design process in order to achieve an energy-efficient, cost-efficient hospitality environment. Don Marvin, EVP of LodgeWorks Partners states, “We’re proud to have achieved an Austin Energy Green Building rating for Archer Hotel Austin. Having recently completed a LEED certification in a New York City project, the process further elevated our awareness of green initiatives and challenged us to thoughtfully consider the impact our decisions could have on the local community and our guests. Beyond the efficiencies and long-term impacts, our Austin customers and guests benefit.”
Energy savings are maximized by employing high efficiency variable refrigerant low (VRF) HVAC systems with automated controls that regulate guest rooms through the use of occupancy sensors. Daylighting strategies are also used throughout the hotel to provide views and reduce the use of interior lighting.
Interior materials selections that minimize the emittance of harmful chemicals and ensure indoor air quality were prioritized by the design team. Food purchasing policies and recycling requirements instituted in both the hotel and restaurant reduce environmental impacts. Almost 50% of building materials were sourced from Texas lowering manufacturing demand and transportation needs.
Low ush and ow plumbing xtures, point-of-use irrigation and an ozone enhanced laundry system that decreases the need for hot water when laundering linens saves both water and energy.
The Domain Northside promotes the unique character of Austin, TX while also providing a pedestrian-friendly environment full of vibrant, local businesses.
