VITERRA

Between the bustle of the residential and commercial area of Almansa (Castilla La-Manchcha, Spain) and the plain garden of Albacete, borns this project that is divided by itself equally between the natural and the contemporary.

As Azorín, an spanish writter said, this land of "melancholic men, who live in arid plains", now houses a restaurant that dialogues between tradition and innovation.   Wine becomes the base of this restaurant, fruit of which arises its name, which is also the union between the Wine and the Earth. A Nihil Estudio project that aims to offer an add value to the traditional product and praise it in a new and careful language.

Viterra pampers all the details that make up a restaurant, from the preparation of the products, to the selection of the menu. This detailed choice and make up of the product goes hand by hand with an in-depth investigation of the traditional processes of wine production in Castilla-La Mancha.

"Winemakers say that the quality of wine has its genesis in the field." A reflection that led us to value the construction of the  classic“Parras” as a basis for this project that is a dialogue between design and food.

And so, from the maximum respect towards traditional doing, Nihil Estudio takes the “emparrado” as the main reference of inspiration. A glazed box concrete, planted face into ideas that in first inisght were spoking more about natural elements and the symbiosis between them and architecture.

Faced up with this seemingly unfortunate situation, from Nihil Estudio the gaps in the façade were enhanced, generating a continuity between the interior and the exterior, and also creating a double that covers, distributes and supports the interior of the restaurant.

As if it were a trellis, the floor and ceiling are connected and serve the space. The wood rises in the form of lattice covering and generating partitions that unify, distribute and privatize the interior of Viterra. At the same time, they privatize the direct connection with the existing exterior.

The concrete is extolled as a rough element, comparable to the Albacete ground and its aridity. It is contrasted with a smooth blue staircase, as a "deconstruction" of water that softens and feeds the earth, this staircase separates one of the most private areas of Viterra, the kitchen area and a large dining room.

The furniture, with straight lines, does not compete with the surroundings, but rather serves as a support for a concept that plays more with the materials, textures and colors.

The roofs of Viterra make up one of the main qualities of the interior design of the project. Designed for making the place could offer its maximum height and of course without forgetting the aesthetic qualities.

A space studied in detail by Nihil Estudio to achieve a greater sense of spaciousness that, without hiding the facilities, has the "emparrado" as a second skin that moves, hiding certain elements and offering other support, such as ruffled bars, a hanging glasses and even a wine bar. This last element is the one that welcomes the place from its entrance. Privatizes the main room of the visitor's gaze, divides spaces and, in turn, exposes the product in a conceptual way.

Reminiscences towards the traditional go beyond the walls to reach a -façade- that takes advantage of the founded materials and incorporates the wood as an essential and representative material. A solution capable by itself of transmitting the simplicity of a project that moves away from ornaments to highlight the honesty of the materials and the product.

Viterra is a cohesion between nature, tradition and contemporaneity.

A 360º design project developed by Nihil Estudio that creates a new concept of honest brand with the product that sells. Food of nearby production and local cuisine that maintains the flavor but innovates in appearance.

In its logo, a small crack reminds us of a vine root, moving, as an independent element and representing life against the rigidity of the rock. Symbology that moves to the  visiting cards, mennu cards and of course to the clothing of the workers of Viterra. A whole project where all the branches of design work together, empowering each other.
