Narrow Lot Competition

The Narrow Lot Competition was a city-sponsored call for designs of a single family home on a narrow lot in Florence, MA.

The competition parameters were as follows:

  1. Respect the context of the site while adding vibrancy to the neighborhood.
  2. Offer opportunity for repairing existing urban design deficiencies.
  3. Demonstrate a house that can work on other narrow lots in the city.
  4. Engage the community on design issues and raise the profile of architects

We submitted designs for two different houses that would work on the lot, with the primary focus  being their adaptability to other similar lots.  The houses are meant to act as a base design which is highly flexible and can be tailored to fit on many sites, and are further customizable in terms of materials, finishes, and aesthetic style.  Titled "Square House" and "Rectangle House," these versatile designs can work on myriad sites and conform to the desires of many clients.
