Realizing the convergence of craft, design and the arts, NEW THEME seeks to redefine the boundaries of the architectural field and of the broader applications of design and construction. Founded in 2002 by Beth Holden and Wolfgang Melian, originally as an architectural firm that pioneered sustainability, NEW THEME has since grown to encompass a full-service design studio that synthesizes European and American architectural practices through our furniture, production work and the fine arts. We take inspiration in the legacy of Southern Californian modernism—both in art and architecture—and seek to unify our vision with current and emergent creative practices. Through this integrated approach, NEW THEME stands to foster a ongoing dialogue about the necessity to live, work and create in spaces that ultimately unify the individual with their collective environment.
