POLAR77 creates a sustainable, cold-friendly space by using shipping containers which can be recycled from globally located seaports and native plants, which will contextualize each individual location. COLDSCAPES winner: Second Hinterlands by Noel Turgeon and Natalya Egon, Chicago, USA. Second Hinterlands envisions the reinvention of the snow removal process after significant winter storms. The project proposes a strategic lack of snow removal and snow relocation after winter weather events. COLDSCAPES winner: The Freezeway by Matthew Gibbs, Edmonton, Canada. The Freezeway proposes an 11 km greenway that can be transformed into a skating lane, effectively combating the sedentary lifestyle that can take hold during the bitterly cold winter months.
