Four teams unveil concepts in competition to design $40 million architecture school at KSU
The WRL proposal for the KSU architecture building was the only one in which a Northeast Ohio firm stood on its own, without tapping a lead design consultant from outside the region. The proposal from the Collaborative of Toledo with Miller Hull of Seattle called for rectangular 'tubes' containing architecture studios, set atop a one-story rectangular base that parallels the new KSU Esplanade. The Weiss-Manfredi and Bowen proposal for the KSU building called for a light, transparent structure. The Bialosky + ARO proposal for the KSU building called for a largely opaque structure designed to produce high energy savings.
