Masters Project: "Green Design Guidelines for the Hanalei River Ridge"

The purpose of this document is to analyze the current proposed development and determine if the design meets the criteria set forth by the Ohana Hanalei, LLC development team, County of Kauai and local community groups. The end result is a set of architectural design guidelines, specifically related to water quality and site preservation. Several recommendations are provided to the Ohana Hanalei, LLC development that are environmentally sensitive to the existing ecosystem of the Hanalei River Ridge and compliant with standards being sought by the Save Hanalei River Ridge community group.

Thesis: “Redefining the Urban Stadia”

The purpose of this thesis is to create a design solution that dissolves the borders and integrates the design of stadiums with their urban context. The strategy for this project utilizes the urban fabric as a means to make changes to this building type and to find a better solution for the incorporation of stadiums in urban design. Locating the stadium in a downtown urban setting will allow the design of the stadium to incorporate current growth patterns into the final solution. In order to lessen the impact on the urban context various environmental factors were considered, such as using existing infrastructure, alternative energy sources and the management of project materials.
