About 

Michael Suriano is a licensed Architect and LEED® accredited designer based in Columbus, OH.

Michael directs work through a website and photoblog as a vehicle to capture visual and tactile design exploration.

He received a Masters in Architecture from the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University in June of 2006. Previously, he studied architecture at Miami University (OH), where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in May of 2001. 

His design views are structured around a belief that architectural beauty is measurable, simplicity is complex enough, and that knowing as designers, while becoming more adept with tools and techniques' capacity create something new, we are also tasked with creating something better.

Part of the design and production team for Sotamaa's finalist entry in the annual Young Architects Program Competition organized by PS1 and MoMA. Also, worked as part of a project team for a competition in Mexico City through advanced modeling, materials research and visualization.

Collaborative designer on a local multifamily housing / development project as a submission for the 2005 Progressive Architecture Awards. Primary focus through materials research, development drawings, and digital modeling.

A design team member for projects ranging from multifamily residential and commercial typologies to various major, minor, and collegiate level sporting associations. Work spanned all phases, and included competition entries, feasibility studies, production + presentation drawings, renderings and design research.

Graduate studies at the Knowlton School of Architecture represented and documented 3 years of intense design research and maturation under the guidance of renowned architectural thinkers and practitioners. Specifically, my research was weighted in material exploration, formal dynamics, and urban typologies viewed primarily through a lens of computational aesthetics. Work was realized in the form of production drawing, traditional media, multi-media, and scaled prototypes.

Republic Square
NBBJ
E/YE Design, Architects

(Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan) - This unbuilt project was entered in the Republic Square Mixed-Use Building Competition. Firms were asked to create a mixed-use facility to fuel Almaty’s recent economic boom and serve as a cultural icon for the region, independent since 1992. Individual sections have their own identity, similar to the mountain tops surrounding the city. Although not selected, the owner requested that many of the submission’s elements be incorporated into the final design.
