This rather compact house is located in Riyadh, Al Waha district in Riyadh city. The small lot and the restriction imposed
by the urban planning code directly conflicted with the client’s desire for spacious interiors overlooking his collection of
cars/Bikes. The carport occupies the lower level and it is visible from the living room located half a storey above; moving
upwards, kitchen and dining. The most intimate spaces are
partially buried under the ground level: these receive natural
light and ventilation from a quiet, inner courtyard as well as
from several skylights carved out from the perimetral walls;
the stairwell is also a channel for zenithal light. The outer main
walls offer almost no openings, to protect the residents
from the noisy context of the site; they are cladded with galvanized steel sheets. This type of design has been inspired by
Japanese Architecture would be the best option for such
a limited floor lot area.
