The Pearl House

The Pearl House is the result of a concept worked between the client, a Korean industrial designer, and the architect, Maxime Moreau. The residence represents a strong and simple gesture: an innovative shell that houses a treasure inside. This idea was also an opportunity to celebrate natural light, vegetation and to reveal a durable and living material like wood.

Located in the Borough of Saint-Laurent, in the city of Montreal, the Pearl House project is a warm home with brick, zinc and wood. It represents a bright living space with open spaces, creating a perfect coherence between the inside and the outside.

The project was born from a desire of the owners to enlarge their home to add a spacious and intimate master bedroom.

The organization of the rooms has been totally redesigned to allow natural light to enter the center of the open plan. Since the house enjoys abundant vegetation in the backyard, the addition opens entirely on it so that the owners can enjoy an exceptional view of the landscapes of the garden, while keeping their privacy. The look of this new suite reflects a contemporary and innovative architecture, a pearl surrounded by a protective layer of zinc with anthracite reflections. In addition, the decor has been completely redesigned, with the addition of new furniture, including a European solid oak wood bed that gives it unparalleled strength and timeless minimalist design, as well as a 5-piece Nanton fabric sectional sofa.

The house, which was already in place before the addition of volume, has a modern architecture. A complete makeover of the bungalow has been deployed and the new expansion differs from the initial installation in its materiality and layout. On the other hand, the new installation has been designed to keep a certain harmony with the existing bungalow by taking inspiration from the horizontal lines, the streamlined facade and the low slope roof that overflows the exterior walls. The whole presents a harmony of architectural components while expressing a simple, harmonized and modern style.
