They were being sold as 'hey, they might be the ugliest shoes in the history of the world, but you just spray 'em down and they'll last forever!' Gardening shoes to fashionable footwear... the suburban equivalent of prison uniforms turning into fashion for gangstas.

I have no aesthetic qualms with Crocs.
I simply do not like plastic shoes at all.
I even got a group of people together one time to protest a TOMS fundraising even. Because that's what people in the third world really need, more trash from more disposable goods!
TOMS for a non-profit has absolutely no foresight... make a shoe that biodegrades or that is safe to burn!

i never owned a pair. i never hated them either. of course, i'm no longer the angry young man of the early 80's who railed against preppy fashion. i seemed to only see them on nurses in scrubs and kids.
the moral of the story is that if you come up with a fashion craze rather than try to build the brand by taking on huge debt, sell the thing asap and collect a few millionz.

I have no problem with Crocs' appearance, even think on the right earnest cheerful youngster they are quite cute, though their forever-in-a-landfill aspect irks me. But seriously, are they significantly less biodegradable than a pair of, for example, Nikes? Or ski boots?
