I'm extremely new to this process. Any advice on prep for my undertaking. I don't have a portfolio or anything. Just some scraps of UI work I've done in Figma and a couple things that have survived from my old computer from Adobe Illustrator but my no means a portfolio.

scraps of user-interface designs won't get you very far... What else do you have? What about drawings, paintings, sculpture? Anything other than digital scraps?
