Hi! So, I'm currently studing architecture at university and I really need a new laptop that can handle Revit, Photoshop, Autodesk and SketchUp. Therefore, I'm thinking a laptop with 16gb RAM, Great Graphics, enough hard drive or SSD. Also I'm wondering whether I should buy a laptop with an external monitor because I will be taking the laptop with me to university or just buy a desktop. I would really appreciate your suggestions :)
I just bought an ASUS ROG GL551JW-DS71 that I've been very happy with, so far; however, a desktop would be a better buy.

Hello all! I had a question about computers for new BS.Arch students, so I thought I would just ask in this same thread. My school (University of Cincinnati DAAP) strongly recommends Macbook Pro's and are very Mac-focused as a whole. I am more of a PC person, so I first looked at the Asus UX501. However, this computer was too bulky for me as I will be carrying it all around campus. Also, since it is classified as an ultrabook, it had a tendency to overheat. Next, I looked at the Dell Precision M3800. The issue with this computer is that the battery life is only 4 hours (compared to the 10+ hours it was reported to get and the 10 hours that macbooks pro's get), and the dell also freezes/crashes more than I am comfortable with. Does anyone have any suggestions for what computer I should buy? I am still trying to get Dell support to fix my precision, but assuming that falls through, what's next? I'm at that point where if I can't get the dell fixed, that I should just buy the macbook pro because that's what almost all the other students are using (per the college's recommendation).
I appreciate any help of insight you can offer.
Thanks,
Matt

Don't get a mac.
Paying 2k for specs that could be bought to 1.5k elsewhere (not a mac), then running parallels or bootcamp to be able to run grasshopper is goddamn stupid.

What I'm currently looking at:
-Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro
-Lenovo Y50-70 (with 16gb RAM)
-Dell XPS 13 or 15
My Budget is $1000-$2500
Thanks !
Google is your friend.
