From the beginning, the client expressed the wish to create a new concept of a first hemodialysis center with exclusive valences to the patients, but at the same time the new Nordial Center - Architecture project was not to look or feel like a hospital...
So, what we were not supposed to do was a hospital like building: elevators and indoors corridors, flanked by countless doors leading to rooms or examination rooms, a waiting lounge at the end of the hall or next to the elevator and a cafeteria in the lobby.
Basically, the same pattern repeated on as many floors as permitted by zoning regulations - an economic solution because it is repetitive to the extreme and requires no modification of staff behaviour.
This said, the Nordial Center addresses the challenge of organize a repetitive program and break down the stigma that clinics equals to monotonous spaces, in parallel with designing a space that is both safe and therapeutic for the patients.
