City As Entrepreneur II

By CoDesign Africa
Jun 27, '23 1:00 PM EST

APPLY BY 29 JUNE 2023, 10PM WAT

As we strive to make our live projects the object of practical education, we are refining our proprietary City As Entrepreneur concept - this idea of building a city incrementally through agile masterplanning strategies. The live project is a proposed Innovation Campus sitting on over 9,000 sq.m for a business incubation and accelerator organization in Osogbo, South-West Nigeria.

The big question is: How do we create a master-plan that prioritizes the most urgent income generating building assets that make it investor - friendly and long term economically viable? How do we exploit the site opportunities such as a busy bordering road, topography, existing trees, a found shallow well and a failed fence undone by capillary action to attract visitors, deliver interesting vistas, recreational areas and delineate the site between its more public and private functions.

From Friday 30 June till Saturday 1 July 2023, we will be working with 2 selected assistants to critique our master-plan concepts and develop them into full blown drawn out plans, callouts, renders and animation.

This charrette welcomes applicants with background in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and urban planning and also encourages more women to apply.

 About the Charrettes

Our charrettes aim to be participatory design avenues for aspiring Environmental Designers (Architects, Urban Designers & Planners, Landscape Architects) Participants develop ideas into full blown proposals in a convivial atmosphere with immediate feedback. It offers a great avenue for students of the Built Environment Industry / young practitioners to gain experience in the profession, be part of live projects in Africa with freedom to work on projects outside of the academic and/or work calendar.
