Lagos
Brief Description:
The political crisis in Nigeria's Osun State in 2001 saw the torching of valuable real estate including our client's old cassava processing factory. We were asked to design a new cassava processing factory on a new parcel of land.
Our response was targeted at a shift in workplace culture with a transparent showroom block serving as a calling card for new products.
With striated glassworks from the factory floor, workers glean a sight of the showroom which is believed will nudge them to do more work.
On its exterior, it references the predominant rustic language of Osogbo's roofs by reusing decommissioned zinc roofing sheets. Its curvilinear showroom also references/abstracts the fertility/productivity metaphor of the Arugba tradition* to make a factory a workplace that is responsive to context and can truly sustain a culture of productivity.
