According to MPD, Community centers is a planned commercial areas providing for retail and leisure shopping, essential business establishments, office spaces, theatres, etc. and caters to the needs of the population at community level.
Community Centers have played a significant role in the life of many local communities and networks, as they are not only limited to recreational activities, but act as magnets attracting citizens from different sections of society. but currently there has been a decline of the quality of space they provide to the residents and some even have their retail spaces shut down.
The aim of this project is to design a community center in one of these areas, providing an environment that offers essential services, inclusive public spaces, and a connection with nature.
Site is located in the residential area of Paschim Vihar, New Delhi, India which offers formal and informal residential users.
To develop the program, the project looked into the existing case studies of the community centers, and site studies to identify the characteristics of the site context.
Stepped open terraces are designed to create dynamic and versatile outdoor spaces. These terraces provide areas for relaxation, socializing, and community events, while also enhancing the building’s aesthetic appeal.
