JHMC was conceived as a modern healthcare clinic with a vision of being a calm haven for patients. It hinges on mellowing down the idea of a clinic, characteristically sterile and cold, while also creating a more conscious environment that is cued into the patients’ life and lifestyles. The design was started with the intent to be a minimal, contemporary and refreshing environment.
The programming of spaces took inspiration from a journey through a staircase that has an apparent position on the floor plate of the clinic. The essence of a trip through the staircase continues into a journey of healthy lifestyle education through the “Gallery of Health” reflecting a conscious approach to the clinic. The narrative establishes a base to divide the program into two zones semi-public and private, one of education that culminates into the other zone of consultation. The interiors reflected this flow through a gentle and fluid architecture, soft furniture edges and lighting. Through a mindful balance, a vibrant nature-inspired environment was characterised by the idea of flowing leaves. This inspired a palette that incorporated pops of pastel greens and hues of colour reflected in decals, textiles and furniture against walls that were pared-back in white. The end result was a feeling of the clinic that is relaxed and reflects a healing atmosphere.
